Epilogue: Discovering Essence

As I was laboring to finish the seed of this book1, I was struck again by the what has been the essence of this work for me: it has allowed me to understand, appreciate and learn to love scores of individuals, people who I otherwise might have passed by or discarded as frustrating or less than worthwhile. Dane Rudhyar highlights the importance of symbols:

Intuition is thus the power to read every whole as a symbol of a basic quality of life. This actually means to see the soul in every thing, the wholeness (quality) in every whole. Through his instincts the animal lives in a world of unconsciously apprehended symbols which compels his biological functions to react in perfect patterns of behavior. The wholly intuitive man lives in a world of consciously perceived symbols, in a world of souls, full of significance.

And as the ordered revolution of the celestial bodies is the great symbol of natural and cosmic order, it follows that the pattern made by these celestial bodies at any moment can be taken as the root-symbol of the wholeness (selfhood and destiny) of every whole born at that moment.2

Although I have used my own experience to highlight the relevance or illustrate the context of my insights, it is what I have learned about the individuals who have been willing to open their Universe in confidence and trust and been willing to engage in the process of mutual symbolizing and communication. If there is one thing I would like to accomplish in this communication with you, it is to catalyze and inspire you to find the essence in everyone you meet. What you find will not always pretty or comfortable, but it has meaning for you: these interactions are your path to wholeness. It has been said that every path leads to the Truth: even more so, every interaction is a path to our essence, to service, kindness, patience, wonder, and to love. Envision a world where this consciousness pervades all of our interactions; then take a look up at a clear night sky. In the silence and vastness of the Universe within and without, harvest your seeds of light; give yourself the time and space to let them sprout and grow; and when you are ready, share your gifts with the rest of us.

In Love and Eternal Awe,
Paz
